Gendelman, a Communications graduate student at the University of Washington, co-founded Urban Archives, an image database of urban communication from cities around the world whose main mission is to record urban texts, like graffiti, public art and signage, that can quickly disappear. Gendelman has focused her research on political graffiti and the policy issues surrounding this controversial art form.

A crew paddled the canoe all the way from the North end of Vancouver Island to visit the Lummi Nation, hosts of the 2007 Canoe Journey. When in use, the orientation of the paddles reflects the intentions of the crew - the black sides symbolize peace, while the red sides symbolize war. Dancing, singing and "potlatching" followed for a week until the canoes left for their return voyage on August 5.
